About
I have enjoyed being creative for as long as I can remember.
I experimented with watercolours, and then discovered oil on canvas, which I found to be so exciting and expressive to work with.
My work has always been mostly figurative, as I find the human body to be a wonderful subject matter.
The form, contours, scale, tone, contrast and delicate hues and subtleties of skin, sinew, muscle, limbs and so on really tells a story and can have a powerful impact.
Over the years I have progressed to working on a larger scale, and I love the spontaneity of working from a blank canvas, with no thoughts of what the subject matter might be.
The initial form takes shape on the canvas, after several hours of gazing.
I then etch in the idea with chalks, and it literally 'grows arms and legs'!
The emotion can come across quite powerfully as the work progresses, and I can be absorbed in it for hours!
My work has also evolved into figures who are barely 'contained' within the canvas.
I love how this brings a real dynamic sense of movement and life to my work.
Painting has always been such a therapeutic joy in my life, and has been my immersion in difficult times.
Recently I have focused on smaller paintings, with pastel and pencil and am enjoying this foray.
I hope you enjoy my work, thankyou.
